Petr Mikeš

He studied English and Russian Philology at the University Palacky in Olomouc and Library Science in Brno. During the normalization (1971-89) he was co-editor of the collection of Texty přátel (“Friends Texts”) where more than 200 titles were published. After 1989 he worked as a translator and writer with many Czech publishing houses. In 1990 he took courses in the International Writing Program at Iowa University, Iowa City and in 1994 he was Fulbright Scholar at the University of Maine at Orono. In 2000 he founded the publishing house Periplum in Olomouc. Three times he was a British fellow at the Center for Translation Writing in the University of the East of Anglia in Norwich (1998, 2000, 2004). He was editor and translator of many anthologies. He published several collections of poetry; his name is represented in anthologies of poetry in the Czech Republic and abroad. He lives in Prague and Olomouc.
